This vacation was a short pre-Christmas break for us as we really needed to get out of Doha to see some greenery, breathe some fresh air, provide Anton with some good diving areas, and give us an opportunity to relax. Due to me already being 5.5 months pregnant, we decided on Sri Lanka as it was near to Qatar and not too expensive.

Sri Lanka was previously called Ceylon, a name given by the British prior to independence. Sri Lanka lies off the Southern Tip of India in the Indian Ocean. After our trip we discovered that it was supposed to have been connected to the mainland via a landbridge in ancient times. The island has been occupied by the Dutch, Portugese (obviously), and the British in more recent times. The architecture shows the influence the various occupiers had.
