Diving at Umm Said
Umm Said is an area about an hour from where we live in Doha. As it is so close, it is a spot we go to often for diving... straight off the beach. There is an artificial reef consisting of some old cars, buses, etc. No vegetation yet although there is a couple of hand-size pieces of new live coral growing if you know where to look. This is NOT common in the area I am told so it is significant that the coral is starting to grow. There are also some fish including LOTS of Blue angel fish that grow quite large, grouper (locally known as Hamour and really tasty on the BBQ!), Jack Fish (also tasty on the grill), small rays, Barracuda, Porkfish, and others. We have done some spear fishing but of course only catch what we can eat and then only properly sized fish. Depspite what it looks like below, Blue Angel fish are not an eating fish :-) Just a pose...
