Whitetail Deer HuntingSouth Western Pennsylvania2010 |

I travelled again this year off to SW Pennsylvania with Dick. This year his sons could not make it nor the others. One passed away in the summer and 4 others went early in Spetember during archery season. |
A very good friend of ours Dick whose is also my hunting mentor. Pictured is "tober" who is a knife with an online persona. "Tober" travels with some 200+ members of the online hunting chat board I run. Tober spends time hunting, fishing and trapping with many of the board members across the Eastern US then posts his "exploits" online. Here he is "stealing" a sip of whisky from Dick one evening at hunting camp. |
As one can see by the photos, we had a bit of cold weather and snow. Great for tracking until it started getting too deep and then we had some issues.

I was the first in our hunting camp group to break the spell and put one down after about 4 days of being out in the cold. A short 100-150 yard moving shot as this girl and another tried to sneak across a hardwood ridge behind us and cross a swollen river in the bottom. You can see the steepness in how she slid down through the snow dusted leaves after I hit her. |
She looks pretty tiny here (I am on the side of the hill and sliding down here in a self-portrait) She actually was decent for a year old doe and weighed about a hundred pounds providing some good meet for the Kaska family over the holidays! |
Our deer cart getting put to good use. My deer and another camp member, Bruces' deer are onboard. Bruces deer was in another 2 deer group that was following the ridge up behind us when I put down mine. He looked up in case and saw his sneaking back to escape. He was using his open sighted Govt. 45.70 !
