Christmas Season 2008

As Caden is older this year I thought it would be nice if we do the “12 days of Christmas” (from Christmas to Epiphany) and make small gifts for our neighbours. One for the first day of Christmas, two for the second day of Christmas, three for the third day etc. - Maggie

Here are a couple of our creations: 'On the fourth day of Christmas Caden gave to me four bookmarks to help me read...'

ten gift tags

seven paper cranes for good luck for New Year's Day

eight paper stars for the windows (they look nice when the sun shines through them

three pomanders

six red paper birds for the tree

and five felted stars.

This is Caden's nature table in his room, which becomes his advent table during advent and stays there transformed little by little until spring during the Three Magi's arrival and with king winter and his snow babies afterwards.

Caden and his Chrismtas gift from Oma “The Apple Cake”, where a grandmother has to go trading for all kinds of other things to get apples for a basketful of plums.

Caden and Papa's gift of a target for his bow and arrow set to practice

Caden and his wooden forest animals which has been extensively expanded during this year's Advent and Christmas as you can see.

A kaleidoscope as a stocking stuffer, as well as a couple of twig coloring pens.

Caden and Papa trying some of the nougat in the stockings

Caden showing off his wooden mama boar as well as his puzzle, which he received from Baby Jesus.

Caden hiding underneath the hallway balustrade decoration. Anton collected the berries on one of his trapping excursions, I think the balustrade came out looking really nice this year!

Caden and his little 'Buntspechte' fox figurine, I absolutely LOVE these wooden figurines and I think they are well worth the money, it is just so beautiful to hold them in your hand.

As we did not have a mantel this year, due to fireplace renovations, we had to use our hutch in the living room.

Caden unwrapping his presents.

Our living room center piece, an apple as a candle holder with some greens from the Advent Spiral that we walked at school this year. It looks very nice when you add a bit of greenery underneath it, I think.

Our first attempt at a gingerbread house that we decorated collectively on Christmas morning,...next year we can hopefully make it for the winter solstice (for which it was actually planned).

I think it came out really nice!

Caden and Papa's snowman in the front yard.

Our pretty Christmas tree, from the farm.

Here is Caden pulling it after Papa cut it down. We really LOVE this winter tradition, which has become a family event, and the farm has some of the most beautiful trees ever!

Caden

Caden showcasing his very cute Autumn coat with 'gnome' style hood, I will attempt to copy it later in the year and knit one myself in a larger size for him... let's cross our fingers that it will turn out!
